Join the most epic naval battle!

Make your mark upon our West Indies saga in "Doomsday"!

Peace with Spain was signed in February 1720. In late April its news arrived to the West Indies, so all the Navies got allied against the common foe – pirates, making their trade more difficult to survive. Which side are you on?

Be ye a pirate, a naval officer, a slave or a lady, you will find a place aboard one of our four ships or live on a paradise island. Men aboard any ship are strongly recommended as first characters, and civilians as secondary ones. No more female sailors are allowed.

We are not the usual sandboxy RPG, neither a narrative-driven one, but a story-focused writing community where each actively writing character can make a difference and an impact on the overall plot. We are writing collaboratively a coherent story with many sideplots aside of it. We also have guides to help you with the time setting, and are more influenced by historical events rather than following them by the history books!

LOUIE d’ANGENNES, tavern helper apprentice

Date: 17-th of May 1720, in the evening
Place: Basse Terre, Tortuga, in the inn Elixir d'Armagnac

It was a regular day in the inn. The pirates had left for a new expedition, this time led by Cacica, as Sol was still weak, Louie knew it better, since he was the one to keep him company a couple of hours a day, and Maribel had instructed him how to recognize fever and that he had to run to her to let her know when he had fever again.

But right now, he was in the main hall, cleaning some tables which were waiting for new customers after the previous ones had left. He noticed that one of the bottles laying on the table was one third full. He did not recognize the label, which meant there was one of the special drinks Maribel kept for certain well-paying customers. What made it so special? the boy wondered, curious to taste it.

No people got drunk only after a swill. He had watched them, it took several glasses for a man to get drunk. He did not realize, however, that for a child it would be enough much less than for a man.

Date: 7-th of July 1720, in the evening
Place: Basse Terre, Tortuga, Pieter's home

- continued from here-

Two hours have passed since Amanda returned home, in a hurry. She had been in shock after witnessing the duel. At least Pieter was safe, and the other man had been hit. She had seen that man covered in blood, he had seen Pieter as a victor, and she had heard Cass stopping the fight. That was more than enough for her. She didn't want to start crying in the streets, so she hurried home, to be able to cry at large.

She wasn't sure if she was crying for her late husband, whose vision she had seen in the shock of the fight she had witnessed, for Pieter, who had disappointed her by putting himself through the same risks her husband had died of, or she was merely crying her fate, of being at the whim of men who could die anytime in a stupid fight. Pieter could have died too, and only God knew if, in case of his death, there would have been any creditors to claim what had belonged to him, including this little cabin.

LOUIE d’ANGENNES, tavern helper apprentice

Date: 5-th of July 1720
Place: Basse Terre, Tortuga, in the inn "Elixir d'Armagnac"

The days since Saint John's festival had been crazy with all they brought. There was a new baby, even if Louie had seen him only at church, when he got christened. He didn't understand actually if the baby was Mini's, how he had heard a few words some days ago, or Maribel's – how the priest had said today – or even Juliette's, who had held him in her arms in church and who had left home with him, ultimately, after giving him to Maribel to hold on the church's threshold. Things were complicated in the grown ups world. Too complicated for a nine years and a half old boy.

But his preoccupation lately had been on another thing he wasn't sure if to tell Maribel or not. For two days, Maribel, Cass and Darcy had been away, on a trip to Port de Paix. Sol had left with Chago's ship, returning only yesterday, and he wasn't sure whom he could talk about the odd noises he had heard lately in the inn, especially at night. Raphael had heard them too, but, as the older boy, Louie tried not to scare him more, and he didn't raise the subject in front of him. He tried to discuss generally with Didier, the son of the butcher next door, and other boys he was playing with sometimes, and they had told him about ghosts and zombies and all kind of scary beings which haunt the darkness. Creaking doors, footstep sounds, wailings, all meant ghosts or zombies.

Now that Darcy was working by his side, he got the courage to ask her, in a whisper:

"Darcy, haven't you heard anything strange lately? Especially at night, most likely from the loft. I think our house is haunted, but I am not sure if there are zombies or ghosts. What do you think?"

He wouldn't dare going there alone to investigate.

EDUR ZURI “EL DURO”, former mercenary

Date:25-th of July 1720, in the morning
Place: Basse Terre, Tortuga

Chago’s letter, received about five weeks ago, had left him speechless. He hadn’t expected that his former work partner would return married from an expedition to Kingston… but what about Chago had gone as expected lately? He hadn’t seen the man since December last year - a bit of a long time to neglect his home. Only that obviously El Moreno trusted Edur to take care well of the household. This was what the old former mercenary was good for now… The Songbird brought some news about him some time in the late winter or spring, he didn’t remember exactly when, but nothing more since then. Another customer of ”San Juan’s Armory” said that he had seen Chago captaining a little sloop and unloading goods in Havana. El Duro wasn’t sure if to believe it or not, until he received the letter that Chago got established in Tortuga, got married and bought a house.

When Edur had seen his younger brother-in-arms, the man was grieving a lost love. The old former mercenary knew that one fire drives out another, but how on the Earth Chago had got enough time not only to fall in love, but to decide about getting married and actually do it, when he wasn't of the kind easily falling in love and easily committing? This was something he was still wondering about. Luckily, other worries had been appeased already. Not all of them, though.

Chago asked him to sell the house in Maracaibo, to pack the luggage and the horse and come to Tortuga to stay with them. Honestly, this was beyond Edur’s expectations. He had feared, reading the letter, that he wouldn't be needed anymore, once Chago had a wife to take care of the house, and that he'd be again in the streets, to spend his old age like a stray dog. But the last paragraphs made him understand it was not the case. He was welcome to make himself a new home in Tortuga, by their side. And this could make sense. Ultimately, since Edur had to retire due to his wound, Chago had behaved with him like with a father.

Edur had been never married and he couldn't know if anywhere in that big world there were young men or women looking a bit like him, the fruits of a night of debauchery; but taking into consideration the age difference between them, in theory Chago could have been his son. And Edur felt he owed this man gratitude and devoted friendship. So, he did his best endeavours to obtain the best price possible for the sold assets, packaged the trunks, took his time in persuading Moro to get aboard the smugglers' ship... and here he was. The luggage remained aboard; for now, only the black horse was accompanying him.

Moro was happier to feel again solid earth under his hoof. He had been terribly distressed being at sea for more than two weeks. The old man who was holding his reins, however, was slightly disoriented. He hadn't been in Tortuga for more than a decade. Maybe fifteen years ago. The town had developed in the meanwhile. He didn't recognize much around.

He stopped and asked about the inn "Elixir d'Armagnac".

SERAPHINE EGRON, candy shop apprentice

Date: 6-th of June 1720, in the afternoon
Place: Basse Terre, Tortuga

- continued from here -

Finette had been looking forward to the planned Sunday outing. If he was going to teach her how to swim, she might really get it and never fear water again. She would feel like a mermaid in the water, something she really wanted.

She had told her mother that she would go another time to visit Antoinette, and that she wanted to finish reading the book a friend of her mother’s had lent her. It was something her mother had heard before, and she could understand. It simply meant that the discussion with Antoinette could focus on subjects meant more for mature women, such as child-rearing advice and household managing, without attempting to indulge a young teen in the conversation. So, she made sure that her mother had left before raiding the pantry and arranging a picknick basket with bread, cheese, tomatoes, broken gingerbread and flower water, a delicacy her mother wasn’t making exactly every day. It was lighter than a syrup and more refreshing. This particular bottle had jasmin flavour.

Now she was ready for the great adventure. Would he come as promised, or would he forget her?
