Join the most epic naval battle!

Make your mark upon our West Indies saga in "Doomsday"!

Welcome

Peace with Spain was signed in February 1720. In late April its news arrived to the West Indies, so all the Navies got allied against the common foe – pirates, making their trade more difficult to survive. Which side are you on?

Be ye a pirate, a naval officer, a slave or a lady, you will find a place aboard one of our four ships or live on a paradise island. Men aboard any ship are strongly recommended as first characters, and civilians as secondary ones. No more female sailors are allowed.

We are not the usual sandboxy RPG, neither a narrative-driven one, but a story-focused writing community where each actively writing character can make a difference and an impact on the overall plot. We are writing collaboratively a coherent story with many sideplots aside of it. We also have guides to help you with the time setting, and are more influenced by historical events rather than following them by the history books!

It was past midday when the Princess dispatched a servant to summon Rear-Admiral Duval to her home. She was pacing her living room. Her mind filled with thoughts. It had been a few days since the kidnapping and it had left Louise Anne quite full of emotion. On one hand, anxiousness had left her with very little sleep during the nights. Despite being back in her own bed, the princess slept poorly these nights given the fear that someone should come in the night again and kidnap her again. She was angry that it had happened. Angry at the pirates, at the guards, the servants. She was even angry at Madame de Sorel who dared make demands of her after such an ordeal.

Though, while the wedding had been too soon after the kidnapping for Louise Anne to have been able to manage and conceal the emotions, she was now at a point where she felt that she should take matters into her own hands. The fool of a governor was but a tool, a man more concerned with himself to get off his hands. The Rear-Admiral had not exactly impressed her either, but at least he was the direct link to any action she might demand of the military.

Still pacing around the table of her living room, Louise Anne was well dressed in an elegant dress brought from France. A dress no doubt worth more than an entire ship crew would earn in a month. On her head she wore her tiara. Not because she had to, but as a statement of her royal blood and the fact that she was done being used as a tool. Now she would take charge. She gently sipped from a cup of tea when a servant came into the room and announced that the Rear-admiral had arrived. ‘Send him in!’ She replied and turned to the door and awaited the man.

Adjusting to the new life in the Caribbean was not as easy as Louise had hoped. Oddly, it wasn’t because of the heat that she was having a hard time finding her place in the colony but rather the limited amount of people with whom she could mingle. Louise was a charming and clever manipulator and her status made her almost untouchable. Also, the title of Princess made her outrank nearly everyone around her back in France and certainly everyone in this place. Sure she was there to purchase property to enhance her estate, her fortune and her influence, but the political intrigue of court felt absent here. Louise was used to the people below her fighting to win her affection and her attention and she actually enjoy making those above her notice her and sway them into making her plans come to life. Just as she had done with the King. It hadn’t even been that hard. The old man had not lacked consorts, but Louise had been the one he would remember. Not because it had been a public affair but because beneath her royal demeanour, Louise knew how to please a man and she knew how to use her body as a weapon in the game of power.

Here in the colonies there were no one who really held any influence worth spreading her legs for and certainly none who seemed worthy of even the tiniest of intrigue plots. Everyone here seemed so dull compared to the court in Paris and so preoccupied with their daily lives and their counter-piracy business. Louise had been sitting in her large study until past sundown and contemplated what she should do with her time as she watched the view from her mansion with a glass of exquisite wine brought from the homeland as she arrived in the Caribbean.

Finally though, she had decided that her thoughts could wait until the morrow. The boring colony would hardly go anywhere while she was sleeping anyway. Her maid had helped her undress and had gotten her bed ready for the night. For a while, Louise stood in front of her mirror looking at her reflexion. Her nightgown was the latest fashion from Paris and made from fine silk and decorated with a tasteful embroidery. For a lady’s nightgown it was quite saucy and Louise smirked at the memory of the King’s face when he had first seen her wear this gown. Then she crawled into her large bed and rested her head on the pillow. Her maid went over to turn off the lights and Louise looked at her and decided to give the servants a night off. ‘You can take the night off, Emilie,’ she said and smiled. ‘And let the others have the night off as well,’ she added and watched the maid curtsey and leave the room.

For a while, Louise lay in her bed and listened as the servants left one by one until the entire place became quiet as the grave. She sighed peacefully and surrendered to the embrace of sleep, completely unaware that she had while she was not afraid of the dark, she had allowed herself to be alone in her home and this night was dark and full of terrors.

Princess Louise Anne de Bourbon

Name: Louise Anne de Bourbon

Aliases: Her Serene Highness, Princess Louise Anne de Bourbon. Countess of Charolais and Mademoiselle de Sens

Age and birthday: 24, 23 June 1695

Gender: Female

Rank/ Occupation: Princess

Current Location: En route to the Caribbean

Character PB: Princess Madeleine of Sweden

General appearance:

Dark brown hair frame a feminine face with a slightly southern French look to it. Louise Anne de Bourbon has soft features and and while she generally keep to the shade to maintain the fashionable pale appearance of the nobility and royalty, she does have a gently natural tan shared with her siblings and the family on her father’s side. She is a short woman but what she lacks in physical height she makes up for in the presence and posture she puts on whenever she is around other people. She is a thin woman with a curvy hourglass figure. She has a generous but proportionate bosom for her height and wide hips which are contrasted by a slender waist. Of course the difference is mostly due to the corsets she wear but even without them she is shapely.

Clothing:

Only the latest fashion from Paris is even considered when Louise is picking out her wardrobe. No matter where she is, she expects to be dressed in a manner befitting her role in society and she is very picky when it comes to her attire. She has a lot of money and that shows when inspecting her clothes. The dresses all come from the finest dressmakers in Paris and they are all lavish with interesting details such as embroidery and decorated with jewellery. It is almost impossible to see Louise wear a dress for more that a few months in total. Once the novelty value of her dress diminishes, she has it replaced with a new, expensive model which can impress the others at court.

Her dresses, being designed by the best designers and sewn to her exact measurements usually fit her perfectly and while the dresses are never considered tacky or inappropriate, the dresses are made to emphasise the feminine shapes that Louise wants to show off. More specifically, her cleavage is generous and the corset she wears helps push up her breasts to increase to shape of her bosom to further the alluring sight. She also often wears necklaces which dip gently into her cleavage. Her sleeves are usually reaching just below her elbows and then decorated with lace. To each of her outfits come a fan in a matching colour and pattern.

Personality:

While most people might think that those who grow up with a lot of wealth and freedom are able to easily adhere to the good Christian values of the Roman Catholic church such as being generous and kind to their fellow humans, but that is not really the case in Louise Anne de Bourbon’s case. The class system has teeth and with a bloodline connection to the King of France, it does not take a lot of effort to make people change their tone around her. Louise Anne de Bourbon is not a disney princess who is looking for her prince charming. She is a calculating woman with a strong mind for numbers and the intrigue of power. She has an ambition of increasing her wealth and that is done by purchasing real estate and lands which can yield a product which can be sold at a profit. Profit does not come from giving money to charitable causes. Louise Anne de Bourbon has a very black and white view on the social structure and in her mind, your family name is everything, then comes wealth and power and those who have none of these are simply not worth her breath.

As mentioned, Louise Anne de Bourbon has a sound mind for numbers and power and she will go far to get what she wants. She will pull on her contacts within the monarchy or even the King himself if need by. She will pull on her wealth if the situation requires it or her title and even her gender if she needs to but usually only to the point of being a seductress. She doesn’t let herself get caught up in scandalously promiscuous behaviour though and while she does flirt and use her femininity as a weapon to the extent that is socially acceptable, she never take it to the bedroom unless it would end up being advantageous for her. She does it when she gets the better deal out of it.

She generally doesn’t consider anyone but her peers as anything to concern herself with and even her peers are valued in their wealth and titles rather than in their personality. In many ways, Louise Anne de Bourbon may seem very superficial in her interaction with people but there is more to her than this. Louise Anne de Bourbon is surprisingly not a racist and while she has no real issue with slavery, she regards people for their name and they money and those coloured men or women who have made something of their life are for the most part regarded with the same politeness that similar white people have achieved. Furthermore, she is a woman who knows that women are more powerful that society will let people think and therefore she does have a weak spot in her heart for women who have potential of becoming powerful in one way or another.

Birth place: Palace de Versailles, France

Family:
Father – Louis de Bourbon
Mother – Louise Françoise de Bourbon
siblings – Marie Anne Gabrielle Éléonore de Bourbon (Older sister), Louise Élisabeth de Bourbon (Older sister) and Louis Henri de Bourbon
spouse, children, anybody else – None

History:

Born into a royal family, Louise Anne de Bourbon never knew anything but the life that came with such a family name and the connections that followed at court. She grew up always surrounded by the best tutors, the best servants and everything she got, from dresses to books to trinkets were always of such exquisite craftsmanship that she developed a very picky nature and never really accepted anything that was not perfect. Everyone around her always bowed and curtseyed as was appropriate when dealing with a little princess and she simply got used to the fact that almost everyone was below her. She was taught by the very best teachers in Paris along with her siblings and quickly learned not only the most important languages of the world but also the history of the world and especially of the countries which languages she spoke. She was taught about mathematics by a very skilled teachers who made her not only an adept mathematician, but also made her able to quickly spot a good deal from a bad one. In other words, her mathematical skills were not only theoretical but also practical.

When Louise Anne de Bourbon came of age, she was naturally becoming a subject of courting and while only one man, The Prince of Dombes who was also her cousin, actually asked for her hand, Louise Anne de Bourbon refused not only him, but any other man who got too close for comfort. She knew early on from seeing her sisters getting married that it meant that she would have to limit her freedom and also limit her influence because a married woman would be expected to go to her husband with problems and not the king. The Duke of Chartres was also briefly considered a potential spouse for her, but this time, the idea was actually dismissed before Louise Anne could even refuse it herself.

But while Louise Anne de Bourbon was not getting married, she wasn’t without some thoughts of romance. She had fallen head over heels for the Duke of Richelieu and while they never got more than a few stolen moments together, Louise Anne was certain that if she was ever to marry someone, that it should be him. Sadly though, she was not the only woman who was in love and even worse was that the man of her dreams were involved in plans to usurp the throne. When he was imprisoned, Louise Anne fought hard to have him released but so did another woman and the womanising Duke of Richelieu chose the other for a while. Louise Anne, heartbroken, sought to mend her bleeding heart and in that she also hardened a lot. She slowly began seeing marriage and sex as political tools and when she set her eyes on another man, it was not love that drove her.

Obviously, an unmarried woman does end up having some rumours attached to her name but nothing that Louise Anne ever really cared about. She spent most of her time attending lavish balls and socialising with the royal family and the King himself. In fact, she grew quite close with the Regent and even before her father died, Louise Anne de Bourbon could add another rumour to her name: that of being the Regent’s mistress. This, unlike some of the others however was actually true and the beautiful young princess had indeed shared the Regent’s bed on more than one occasion but it was hardly out of love. The Regent at the time was her first cousin and the affair was out of a mutual respect as well as lust and of course as a way for Louise Anne to be close to the Regent and to whisper into his ear and thereby gain influence. In this case, she felt that she gained a lot more than she gave because while she got the power to suggest things directly to the Regent when he was at his most vulnerable, he just got a pretty girl in his bed and Louise Anne is by no means the only pretty girl in France.

As time passed though, the whispers of the Princess and her affairs began to include wonders if the much older Regent had been seduced by the young woman to release the Duke of Richelieu and the Regent, who had so far felt quite pleased with the ‘arrangement’ suddenly saw that his status and power would diminish if it was said that a woman pulled the strings behind his back. Especially a woman who were affiliated with known conspirators. So the Regent decided to avoid this as well as the potential scandal and sent Louise Anne de Bourbon to the Caribbean to expand on her land ownership. He thought this was the best way to deal with the situation and calm the whispers while also not giving the cold shoulder to a woman who had kept his bed warm more than once.
