Join the most epic naval battle!

Make your mark upon our West Indies saga in "Doomsday"!

Welcome

Peace with Spain was signed in February 1720. In late April its news arrived to the West Indies, so all the Navies got allied against the common foe – pirates, making their trade more difficult to survive. Which side are you on?

Be ye a pirate, a naval officer, a slave or a lady, you will find a place aboard one of our four ships or live on a paradise island. Men aboard any ship are strongly recommended as first characters, and civilians as secondary ones. No more female sailors are allowed.

We are not the usual sandboxy RPG, neither a narrative-driven one, but a story-focused writing community where each actively writing character can make a difference and an impact on the overall plot. We are writing collaboratively a coherent story with many sideplots aside of it. We also have guides to help you with the time setting, and are more influenced by historical events rather than following them by the history books!

Place: Aboard ”Le Phenix”, sailing from Kingston to Port de Paix

- continued from here -

Being the watch officer for the night, Christian walked out on deck to inspect the helmsman when he noticed the activity on the deck. It was a clear night with hardly a cloud on the sky and on the bright moonlit deck, Christian recognised not only his immediate superior, Rear-Admiral Duval, but also the Comtesse de Sorel. This awoke the curiosity in Christian who wondered if the Rear-Admiral was seeking to court the woman. Surely she would yield great titles and a great dowry, but Christian was a bit puzzled as to whether the Rear-Admiral and the comtesse was compatible in terms of their opinions and views on the world.

Christian did not approach them. He was on watch and interrupting their conversation might be ill-advised. However it was hard not to keep an eye on them. Especially when they happened to kiss briefly. Christian remained by the helm and waited until the comtesse left the deck before he made a move. Then he walked down to approach the Rear-Admiral. ‘Good evening, Sir!’ Christian said as he announced himself. He took a stand by the railing on the opposite side of where the comtesse had been standing and then he waited a moment before he continued. Mostly to be certain that she was indeed gone and wouldn’t hear. ‘You seem to have gotten quite well-aquainted with Comtesse de Sorel’.

With a mostly quiet patrol so far, Christian could once again open the log and write a simple entry. Obviously this wasn’t the most interesting thing to later turn into the Rear-Admiral. But Christian chose to interpret the lack of many encounters as nothing more than a proof that the mighty Le Phenix was feared by those who sought to make trouble in French waters. Or that the Spanish navy might be elsewhere for some reason. He took a break from writing and gazed out the window at the early night sky and the black water only lit by the fractured reflexion of the new moon and looked like hundreds of little stars that shone from the deep.

Christian was tired after having spent most of the day inspecting the ship and running drills to make sure that the ship would be ready to take on any threat to the ship security or a threat to the French Colonies. He needed to finish his entry in the log before would retire for the night though. He had planned to do a quick nightly inspection during the night to make sure that everything was in order and to show the men that their officers were active.

His coat hung over an empty chair by the table and his hat lay next to the map and the log as he once again picked up the feather to write on. He managed only one word before the sound of a a hand knocking on his door sounded in the room. Christian looked up and put the feather aside. “Enter!” He said loud enough for it to be heard on the other side. He sat back and waited to see who might be entering and with what purpose.

A clear winter morning that was far from those he had been used to in Europe. There were no snow and ice here and while it was a bit cool still that the Sun had not yet gotten total domination over the sky, it came nowhere near the bone chilling cold of sailing the northern oceans of Europe at this time of year. Christian was walking along the deck and considering the fact that he was now the Acting Captain of the ship in the absence of Captain Laurent. That obviously demanded some focus as it was a huge responsibility to be in charge, even if only temporarily, for the flagship of the French colonial navy.

As he walked, Christian watched the state of the canons and the general condition of the ship. He wanted to be able to bring the ship back in port in such a state as a flagship should and so that the Rear-Admiral might even add a little note in his personnel file that could put Christian closer to a ship command of his own one day.

Walking past a canon, Christian found that some ammunition was not secured and while the ship was steady nothing happened but clearly things could get worse in rough seas. He turned and looked at the nearest person on deck. “Why hasn’t this ammunition been secured?” He asked in a commanding tone befitting of the rank he held but it was not mocking or aimed to discredit someone. It was a question that demanded an answer and he wanted more than that. Christian wanted something done about this sloppiness.

Christian Lécuyer

Name: Christian Lécuyer

Aliases: None but he wants a heroic one

Age: 24

Gender: Male

Rank/ Occupation: First Lieutenant, Count

Current Location: Le Phenix

Character PB: Josh Duhamel

General appearance:
Short brown hair frame his face and a little well-trimmed beard around his mouth makes him easy to recognize. When looking into his eyes, one is met with hazel brown eyes that often seem either dead serious or friendly and well meaning. He is a fairly tall man. In fact, he is often taller than most men he sails with and a navy hat only makes him seem taller. He is well built but thin, not a person who ever had to do much manual labor.

Clothing:
Always gallantly dressed in a tailored uniform made to a perfect fit and always kept both clean and always worn with the eye for the smallest detail. His sword hangs by his side and shining because it is always polished and cleaned to look absolutely perfect. When it comes to clothing, he can spend long time in front of a mirror to make sure it all looks as it should and he is a perfectionist on this area.

He wears uniforms for several reasons. One of them is that he believes that a uniform makes him appear more noble and more heroic. Another is that uniforms often show status and it is a way to let people see that he is someone special.

Personality:
Here is a man with great goals. Perhaps dreams are a better word. Christian is a count and an officer in the navy, so his life is already good. He doesn’t really need anything and his family fortune is grand. However Christian is not satisfied with that. He wants his name to have a place in the history books. He used to read old tales of battles and myths and legends and that gave him a taste for an immortal name. He hopes that his navy career will let him rise to a rank where people all around in France will know his name and that he will command ships or even fleets in battle so that even a thousand years may pass and still the name of Christian Lécuyer lingers fresh in everyone’s mind.

While he has seen battle several times, Christian still has some romantic image in his mind about how the perfect battle should be and he often muse about how he and he alone save the day and returns victorious to Paris to be cheered on by thousands of commoners and be praised by even the King. Yes Christian has big plans for his life and certainly will quickly get tired of lingering in one place when adventures and fame lurks on the horizon. This also means that he is often quite disappointed when a patrol is over and nothing particular happened or if he was not praised for his part in something great.

Now Christian loves being praised and as he already envisions himself to be a future hero of the Kingdom of France and the nobleman over them all, he obviously loves to hang around people of his own status. In fact, Christian is quite reluctant to be around the lower classes. After all why should he mingle with them when they are just around to work? He doesn’t really believe that the lower classes can be engaged in a proper conversation and surely they are all ill with something and all surely are filthy.

Now there are times where he does feel for the lower classes. It is not something that he would ever admit to anyone but himself. But Christian can sometimes if he treated a lower class person exceptionally bad lay awake at night thinking about it. It is not so much because he at all feels that everyone should have equal rights, but there have been a couple of incidents that he is not proud of but no one knows about it. He keeps it to himself as he never read anything bad about those heroes in old tales. He also wants to be remembered as a great man so even if he is sometimes bad towards the lower classes, he does feel bad about it later. But not bad enough to really change his personality.

Christian is a perfectionist. His uniform always has to be in perfect order and completely clean. He can’t stand when something doesn’t look perfect. His home must look perfect as well and every meal his servants serve is either perfect or they will get scolded for it. He is also quite picky. If he is out buying something he will know in his mind what he wants and he will not settle on something less. The same comes when meeting women. Of course he had some night visits from housemaids but they were always to be kept secret, he knew several flaws with them and took them into bed merely for the sexual intentions. However when he is looking for women of his own class he looks for a perfect woman. Her behavior and her looks must be perfect. After all she will have to stand beside him when he is praised as the hero of France and that is a demanding thing, even for a woman. Yes Christian wants to be admired, not only for his exploits in combat and wealth, but also be admired for his choice of woman.

Birth place: Sainte-Mère-Église, Normandy, France

spouse, children, anybody else – One young son born to a maid (name unknown).

History:
When Christian was born there was nothing to suggest that he would become a man who would try reaching the stars. His home at that time was a good home but not that of a nobleman but that of a navy captain. His father was a skilled seaman and had seen many battles. His stories always captivated the young Christian who dreamt of having a naval career as well. Christian loved his father and would spend almost every waking hour with him when he was at home and when his father was out to sea, Christian would read old myths and legends about great battles of the olden days. He loved the idea of a man rising up from being just a man to become a warrior, a savior of the day, a hero! And of course he saw the same thing happening with his father. Christian’s father was a well renowned navy man who even became an admiral and was welcomed into nobility by the King who gave him the title of count for his merits. Christian adored his father and he hoped to one day show his father that he could do just as well if not even better.

But that dream was shattered in 1704 when his father was killed in a battle against British naval forces and Christian stood very young having inherited everything that was once his father’s. But all the land, all the agricultural business was of little interest to the boy and while he had people to manage it, Christian knew that he would not linger at his home forever. No, there was no glory to be found on a field of wheat. No great tales would ever be told of a man who watched his servants use a plow. Honour would come only in battle and the navy was where he would get that.

As soon as he was able, Christian enlisted with the navy as a midshipman and since money was not at all a problem for him, he was easily able to pay for his commission. He was 18 by then and had spent a lot of time at sea. He took some time to return to his family and while he was suggested to remain there and simply enjoy the fancy balls and the good life as a count, Christian almost considered doing so. He loved his life and his money. And being at sea much had given him other things to enjoy when he was at home. One night he had been unable to stop looking at a young housemaid who was serving the food. He had however not said or done anything before the night fell, then he found her in the kitchen and seduced her. Now it wasn’t hard, he was a handsome young count in a pretty uniform and she was a naïve poor girl only around 15 years old. He slept with her that night but she was not allowed to remain with him. For it had not been an act of love, merely lust. Once the deed was done he had send her back to the kitchen and she had left with tears in her eyes.

Of course at the moment, Christian had not thought much about it, but then the girl got pregnant. Of course he soon realized that he had to be the father and as he was not at all interested in having a child with a commoner, he dismissed her from her service. She was now without a job and if that wasn’t bad enough she had been disowned by her family. The last he heard of her was that she was living on the street as a prostitute. No doubt only because of him. That kept him up many nights. He felt bad that it was her fate but he made no attempts to help her. Instead he began thinking of other things. He needed to get back to the sea. It called for him and would definitely be able to clear his mind.

He did return and sailed many patrols around in the channel. However nothing happened there. Nothing that would make him a hero. Nothing that would bring renown to his name. But then after a few years a chance came. A chance to get far away from France, a chance to seek out adventure in the new world. Christian took the offer and was soon after transferred to the Caribbean. This would no doubt be good for him.

Weapon Skills: Skilled in the use of a sword. Slightly above average in skill though nothing too fancy. Pistol skills are fair though not often used. Will never use a rifle as that is not an officer’s weapon.

Anything else: Nope
