Anastasia Lily Ardmore StillworthAliases:
Aine, (AWN-yeh) Aine SternAge and birthday:
19- March 27, 1701 (Easter Sunday)Gender:
Noblewoman (exiled)Current Location:
Lea SeydouxGeneral appearance:
Aine is thinner than a lot of noblewomen, mostly because she is not able to eat much due to a constant feeling of stress and being watched. She is petite, with dark eyes and hair, an especially tiny nose, and high cheekbones. Her skin is not wholly pale, but rather a light color the color of coffee with cream. Clothing:
Aine often wears dark colors like black or brown, mostly because they go better with her hair. She would like to wear more colors, but feels wary of attracting too much notice, even after almost a year here. She often veils herself if she has to go out in public. It gives her a feeling of security. Personality:
To an extent, she feels as though Anastasia Ardmore Stillworth died on the day she arrived on Tortuga. Perhaps that is why she wears black and brown- she feels in mourning, not only for her family, but for herself. Before her father's death, she was a bubbly, bright individual who loved sunshine, animals, and books. She also excelled in needlework and often made gifts for her family and friends.
Now, she feels as though there is no one to make gifts for. She wants desperately to make friends, but feels as though everyone would hate her if they knew what she did to her family, however unintentionally. She tells enough of her history to hope people understand and like her anyway, but she feels that a friend would understand her secret, and she hasn't met anyone she feels comfortable sharing with yet. Aine can have a temper when she is upset- another gift from her Irish grandmother- and this happens frequently. Perhaps it would not if she were not so frustrated with herself, but self-forgiveness is an entirely new concept to her, one not often spoken of in church.
She enjoys the occasional social function, though she is always veiled, and when she and Frederick are dancing, it seems as though she can be happy again, if only she can figure this self-forgiveness thing out. Perhaps, too, she might feel a little safer if Frederick were not her only bodyguard. They brought very few servants as a matter of necessity. But she has no idea how to fix this problem either. Anastasia was born on Easter Sunday, 1701 and named accordingly. Though her family were staunch Anglicans in general, she does have some fairly distant Irish Catholic relatives (her great-grandfather was a fourth son, so no one much cared when he married an Irish tavern maid.) and Irish Gaelic is among the languages she knows due to that bit of family history.
However, her father was never wholly committed to the Anglicans, for the simple fact that they hated the Catholics, and while he did not openly defy the regime by missing church frequently, he often did what he could to help those in need regardless of religion.
When Aine was 17, that included saving a family (who turned out to be Catholic) from a burning house. She was to be married at the time, but a few weeks before her wedding, her father died of smoke inhalation. Not knowing the family wasn't Catholic, the oldest boy planned to send for a priest. Her mother said no, but her father was struggling to breathe, and Aine said that a Catholic priest would be better than no one at all, fearing that the nearest Anglican priest would not arrive in time. Her fears proved to be well-founded, as her father died within 15 minutes of the priest's arrival.
Unfortunately, the neighbors, not realizing that they really were in dire straits, found out and reported them to authorities. Aine's wedding was hurried forward, and they (luckily) found an Anglican priest who was willing to be a little understanding of their circumstances to perform the ceremony.
She and her husband have lived in Tortuga for nearly a year now, his reasoning being that the government was looking for pirates, not victims of circumstance.
But she hasn't seen her siblings since the wedding, when her brother Paul gave her away. (It would have been David, who was the oldest, but as newly appointed heir in his father's stead, he didn't want his first act as lord of the manor in the public eye (a smaller public, given the circumstances, but still) to be tainted by what others might see as involvement in a scandal.)
No word from her family for so long has put her on edge, and she's no longer certain if hiding her secret is good for her health. She already suffered a miscarriage early on in the marriage due to the stress of having to make sure no one found out her true identity. But hide she must- or die, she believes. Her husband is loving, and says there will be time for children when she feels safe. But she doesn't know if she ever will.Weapon Skills:
