“Before the Mast” is approaching its seventh year of life – what's two more months to pass? To many more together! Warm thanks to all the crew, to everybody who has made it possible for our writing community to flourish and for the story to get further.Unlike other years, we won't have any additional special birthday event, since the one of last year, Saint John's summer fires, is still ongoing. We have the birthday celebration here in Tortuga, and it is exciting, as long as people do really join and take part in it with all their hearts, because it has pirates and Navy men joined together, happy for their friends and loved ones. You are invited to join our next volume, Caribbean Dawn, and bring there the characters you want to survive the Doomsday (and all the land-based characters you want to keep). The only effort required from you is to make sure you update the character bios not only in form, but also in contents with everything which had happened in 1720 Before the Mast.
The circumstances of the move have been discussed here
as extensively as you wished. The discussion is still open for all of you to mention any concerns, suggestions or comments regarding the new volume, the new possible plots, the ways to strengthen our community and anything else related to our story and community. The floor is yours!
As per the 1-st of June 2017, statistics show that we have 37 male active characters and 24 female
. For the purpose of the statistics, only the writers who have posted in May are counted here
. However, if they have posted only with one character out of several they have, all their characters are counted as active.)
Active members: 12
Active characters: 61
, out of which:Pirates = 12English Navy = 5French Navy = 11Privateers = 5Civilians = 28
There are plenty of new things “Before the Mast”, looking forward to your participation, as they give opportunities for more characters than they actually seem to join. There are new and already ongoing threads which would welcome your participation. There is a big battle
, which has also been opened for the pirates, the French and British Navy too, as shown here
. It will end apotheotically the month of July 1720, making way for a Caribbean Dawn
bright for the survivors.
I would also want to highlight the Whale of a tale
section, where there are lots of interesting stories to read when you are waiting for your partners’ replies, as well as the Message in a bottle
, where some journals start to contour!
A warm welcome to Blades
's initiative to bring a British Navy sailor to our story, Thomas Hightower
. Looking forward to seeing his first post, and seeing him integrated into the story!
As for thread/ quote spotlight
, the French Navy carpenter Marc Lafont
, played by Joelle
, deserves highlighted for the the most congeniall quote from the thread Doomsday
: It's always easy to blame someone who isn't you, though. Even if you would have done exactly what they are doing. The pirates aren't us, so we blame them. And when they are all dead, we will find somebody else to shift the blame to.
The deeply human thought, well written, reflects a peaceful and congenial soul. Congratulations and way to go!
The “Histories and Chronicles of the West Indies”
are the whole site’s, not anybody’s monopoly, and I really appreciate when people get involved and show that we are a community! Taking part in the community, giving feedback, talking about your characters is also important, and spending a few idle moments on a game while waiting for an answer is never a bad idea.
Voting daily in the topsites also helps… You can find them below the affiliates, under the heading "Vote for us
