While we aren't moving just yet, the new site is ready and waiting for the adventures of all of our characters. However, as the new site is radically different from this one in terms of look and feel, I'd thought I would post a little info on how to use the new site for those of you that may look at it and wonder where everything is.
When you open our new site in your browser, you'll see this:
On the left side of the board the sidebar is fixed so that it scrolls along with you when you navigate the board. That means that no matter where you are in a topic or on the index page, the c-box and all the relevant links will always be within easy reach.
However before I go more in-depth with the sidebar, I'll mention that is very different from BTM's layout. On Caribbean Dawn, the banner is not a link to the index page but rather a decorative front for more info. If you move your mouse curser over the banner, it will fade away and reveal a variety of information:
The information you may find here is admin updates in the upper left corner. Here the staff will update you on technical or non-roleplay related issues or updates.
Just beneath the admin update box is an introduction to new members on how to begin their journey on Caribbean Dawn.
In the middle of the banner is a field called the Caribbean Gazette. This is where major plots will be posted to allow you all to easily identify which large plots are ongoing or upcoming and if you have a character that is eligible to participate.
On the right side is a list of our staff so that new members and guests can identify who to direct questions or advertisement requests to.
Finally, on the bottom of the banner is something new to our site. An advertisement for ideas or plots. So far, most plots have been crafted between two writers by plot pages, PMs or c-box discussions. The purpose of the idea advertisement is that members can post a plot idea they would like to have happen to their own character but haven't found someone to do it with yet. Other players can they examine this advertisement list and who knows? Maybe two people get to plot who didn't originally think their characters would have any opportunity to meet.
Moving back to the c-box, it too contains a world of information that may seem hidden upon a first glance. This is because the c-box is tabbed and can be navigated using the little crowns under the square gif on the top.
The current layout of the sidebar is as follows: On the first page is the board c-box. The second page holds our plot information. The third page is a list of links to relevant topics on the board as well as links to the older volumes of our story. The fourth page is empty for the moment but will receive some information when relevant. The final page hold all of our affiliates.
This leads me to the final thing in the new layout that may affect your everyday use of Caribbean Dawn. We have mini-profiles now which is basically a collection of info about each character that will show up if you move your mouse cursor over a member's avatar. The information itself is fairly self-explanatory but I will show you where to input this information to make your own character's info appear on the profile:
In your control panel, there is a point called 'Edit Profile Info'. Click that and the first 6 fields contain the info that will go into your mini-profile. It is important to note that you MUST fill out all six fields in order to save the info.
The sixth field is an image field where you may post either a .gif animation featuring your character or just a regular static image in case you can't find a .gif you want to use or simply prefer a regular image.
Once that is filled out, it'll look like this:
The mini-profile makes it easy to quickly see key-info about characters that you are playing with in a topic but it also means that the avatar size is now required at a very specific number. When you make your new graphics, be sure to have them in 225x350
or they won't fit the mini profile.
In case anyone don't know how, or like to work with images then feel free to ask any of the staff or even our other friendly members for help and I am sure we we'll all be able to have lovely graphics on Caribbean Dawn.
